March For Science Los Angeles 2017
On Earth Day (Saturday, April 22, 2017), somewhere between 20,000 and 50,000 people showed up at Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles to participate in the March For Science LA. The Lead Organizer and Communications Director for this event was current CMB trainee Alex Bradley, and the Social Media Coordinator was former CMB trainee Andrea Hadjikyriacou. The purpose of this event was to get scientists to meet with the public and discuss why scientific research is important for our future, and why scientists should do everything possible to make politicians base their policies on scientific consensus. The event consisted of several talks at Pershing Square in the morning, a march to Los Angeles City Hall at 11:00 pm for more talks, and then a Science Expo with a variety of educational and entertaining booths displaying interactive science demonstrations. An interview with Alex Bradley prior to the event can be read here.
